Display of the Volpi Urn

In the Cathedral, the celebrations on the occasion of the Solemnity of All Saints are marked, in the preceding days, by the solemn exposition of the Reliquary Ark donated in 1586 by Bishop Antonio Volpi. The work is made of embossed and chiselled silver foil and  chiselled and depicts scenes from the life of the Blessed Virgin and until the 20th century was
carried in processions through the streets of Como and displayed in the Cathedral during solemn occasions.
In the 19th century, the urn support structure was also made with two beautiful walnut angels covering it with their wings, recalling the iconography of the ark. The iconography of the ark of the covenant, the holiest object of the people of Israel as a sign of God’s presence and protection. The tradition of the Procession is renewed.
